Projects
Projects group related tasks, carry funding goals, and define how work is sorted and who can see it.
Creating a project
From the dashboard, click New Project. A project needs a name and a description. From there you can configure:
- Access level —
publicprojects are visible to everyone and surface in the funding dashboard;privateprojects are visible only to members. - Funding goals — yearly targets per project (e.g. $60,000/yr). Goals only surface in the funding dashboard for public projects; the app warns you if goals are set on a non-public project.
- Weight sort template — which weights matter and how much, driving task order across the project.
- Industry — projects are tagged by industry (e.g.
software). AI code authoring is available only on software-industry tasks.
Project sections
The project page has four main areas:
- Tasks — the sortable task list. This is the work queue.
- Awaiting Review — tasks submitted for your approval, each with an auto-approve countdown (red within 24 hours). Sorted soonest-to-auto-approve first.
- Funding — goals, pledges, and payout status per task.
- Sub Tasks — nested work lives under parent tasks at the bottom of the task detail page (see Tasks).
Task sorting
Tasks sort by a composite score from the project's weight template. The five weights are:
| Weight | Meaning | Scoring |
|---|---|---|
| Importance | How much the task matters | 1–5, higher = more important |
| Urgency | How soon it needs doing | 1–5, higher = more urgent |
| Effort | How much work it takes | 1–5, negative weight — harder tasks sink |
| Fun | How enjoyable it is | 1–5 |
| Business Value | Revenue/strategic impact | 1–10 scale in the default template |
The default template weights Business Value heavily ({Importance: 5, Urgency: 3, Effort: -2, Business Value: 10} with a funding bonus), so high-value, low-effort work floats to the top. Owners can adjust the template in project settings; contributors see tasks in the resulting order. Projects without a template get weight sliders for one-off custom sorting.
Score each weight independently — your best guess. Don't overthink it; you can adjust later.
Members and roles
Invite members from Project → Settings → Members:
| Role | Can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | Full control: edit tasks, manage members, approve reviews, set funding |
| Admin | Manage tasks and reviews; no billing/funding changes |
| Contributor | Bid, volunteer, and work on tasks |
| Viewer | Read-only access |
Project settings
Project → Settings covers:
- General — name, description, access level (public/private), industry.
- Funding goals — yearly targets. If goals are set but the project isn't public, you'll see a warning: goals only surface in the funding dashboard for public projects.
- Weight template — adjust the composite sort weights.
- Members — invite, change roles, remove.
- API tokens — project-scoped tokens (including idea-creation scope) for integrations.
- AI Workers — pair and manage ff-worker instances. See Agent Integration.
Visibility
- Public — anyone can see the project, its tasks, and its funding progress. Required for funding goals to appear in the funding dashboard.
- Private — visible only to members. Good for internal work or stealth projects.
You can switch between public and private at any time in settings.
Ideas
Projects can collect ideas — lightweight task proposals from anyone. Owners triage ideas and promote the good ones to real tasks. Ideas are a low-friction way to gather suggestions without committing to full task write-ups.
